If you
are unsure of something, have a concern regarding your child's education or
something that is happening at school; contact the school to discuss the matter.
A solution to your concern is always achievable if direct non-threatening
contact is made with the school, sooner rather than later. A sensible approach
is to identify as clearly as possible what it is you are concerned about.
Ensure the information you have is accurate. Remain open-minded and then contact
your child's teacher or the Principal to discuss the issue. During the discussion
ask questions, and stay calm. Little can be achieved in an atmosphere of hostility
and the essential partnership between home and school could be damaged. Teachers
will always listen to your concerns, explain what they are doing and why and
suggest what steps can be taken to allay your worries. We are confident, through
calm, rational discussion, that all problems arising at school can be resolved
to the satisfaction of all parties without the need for outside intervention.
Problems between students at school should be placed in perspective and resolved
by the students at school without parents coming into the conflict. The Education
Act has provisions to protect schools from disruption and to protect teachers
and students from abuse by parents with a grievance against them. We welcome
any information you can provide that will help us better understand and work
with your children. It is particularly helpful to share any problems evident
at home that may be affecting a child's performance or behaviour at school.
We are continuously evaluating what we do and appreciate your comments and
suggestions to help make your child's day at St Helens as happy and rewarding
as is possible.
